The better post-workout toner

Cool down your skin with water sticks.

Brands like Milk and Ilia are rolling out a new beauty offering called water sticks. These toners, which come in solid gel formulas rather than liquid, are meant to energize the skin for an instant pick-me-up.
Toners thoroughly cleanse the skin and remove excess oils, making them a crucial part of your locker room routine. But you have to apply liquid formulas with a cotton pad, so they’re not ideal for when you’re on the go.

Water sticks are the more convenient option for cooling and hydrating your face post-workout since they can be applied directly onto the skin, says Sarah Garland, senior manager of planning for for The Spa at Equinox in New York City.

The benefits mostly come from H2O-based ingredients. Ilia’s product uses cucumber pulp to depuff the skin (the same reason people put slices of the fruit over their eyes) while Milk’s version includes magnesium-rich seawater to retain moisture.
Use water sticks post-workout (after cleansing your face) or apply them over your makeup on hot days to soothe overheated and dehydrated skin. Garland recommends Milk Cooling Water because it contains caffeine, which encourages circulation. When possible, keep it in the fridge to amplify its cooling properties and its ability to ease under-eye puffiness, she adds.
