Artists to watch playlist: spring 2019

12 tracks curated by breakout musicians

To herald the arrival of spring, Furthermore talked to three up-and-coming acts about how they stay centered and fit on the concert circuit. See below for a collaborative playlist that includes their go-to tracks of the moment.

You may know the English singer for “Don’t Call Me Up,” a smash single in the U.K. that’s beginning to make waves Stateside. The 23-year-old artist was recently nominated for a prestigious BRIT Award for British Breakthrough Act and her voice and pop hooks are impressing fans the world over, including Harry Styles, who recruited the singer to open for him on a recent tour. To stay fit and sane in the midst of all the excitement, Mabel gives herself an hour each morning sans phone or heads to the gym for a workout.

Hobo Johnson
When Hobo Johnson & the LoveMakers submitted a video of their song “Peach Scone” to NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series, they didn’t realize the impact it would have: The video soon went viral and cemented them as national up-and-comers. Thanks to their unique sound, the Californian alternative hip-hop act scored an impressive record deal and will perform in June at Bonnaroo. Johnson (real name Frank Lopes) relies on an energetic lineup to keep momentum during workouts.
On his spring playlist:“40oz. On Repeat” by Fidlar, “Jim Bogart” by The Front Bottoms, and “Havana” by Camila Cabello

Loud Luxury
This DJ duo, who hail from London, Ontario, first gained recognition as remixers. Now, their hit “Body” has gone double-platinum in Canada, gold in the U.S., and garnered half a billion streams on Spotify. Because their schedule is so hectic, says Andrew Fedyk, “we are constantly putting wear on our bodies.” Regeneration is a particularly important factor.
