Celebrity playlist: Roosevelt

The alternative artist shares the tracks that help him unwind.

Imagine a dance club somewhere deep in Europe during the ‘80s and you’ll get a sense of the inspiration for Roosevelt’s throwback sound. The 28-year-old (real name: Marius Lauber) hails from Cologne, Germany and has been perfecting his craft since he was a teenager. Garnering a cool 25 million Spotify streams in 2018 alone, the dedication evidently worked out for the enigmatic star.

In celebration of his acclaimed sophomore album, Young Romance, Roosevelt put together a playlist for Furthermore featuring alternative artists like The War on Drugs and Coachella-headliner Tame Impala. As for how he stays sane throughout a busy touring schedule, Roosevelt points to the beauty of going off the grid. “We got so dependent on our phones and navigation, that we forgot how it feels to truly experience a city that we don‘t know,” he says. “When I’m performing, I’ll leave the venue in the afternoon and wander around for a few hours. It kind of keeps my brain healthy since I never know what‘s coming around the corner.” Below, the nine songs he listens to when he unplugs.

roosevelt - under the sun

the war on drugs - clean living

john martyn - small hours

tame impala - apocalypse dreams

unknown mortal orchestra - everyone acts crazy nowadays

roosevelt - forgive feat. washed out

alvvays - in undertow

moritz krämer - um raus zu sein

noname - yesterday
