Celebrity playlist: St. Lucia

9 indie pop tracks to stream ahead of the act’s third album

Jean-Philip Grobler, otherwise known as St. Lucia, grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa and currently resides in Brooklyn, New York; the influence of both cultures are obvious in his unique brand of indie pop. Grobler uses the moniker St. Lucia to describe his solo music act as well as the group of musicians with whom he tours and collaborates. Together, they’ve created two critically acclaimed albums, 2013’s When the Night and 2016’s Matter, and their highly-anticipated third album, Hyperion, coming out in September, will likely follow suit.

In celebration of Hyperion, Grobler put together an indie pop playlist exclusive to Furthermore which features brand-new St. Lucia tracks (including the addictive “A Brighter Love”) along with some personal favorites. They all make for perfect accompaniments to a workout. “We already have a pretty active show and I’m pretty sure we each burn at least 800 calories every night,” says Grobler. “I also love going for a run to explore a new city or finding a pool to swim laps. It’s meditative, and you need that when you’re living on top of each other every day.” Below, the nine tracks that help him both unwind and get moving.
