Embrace a darker scent this fall

...with these six new frangrances

Fall is when you hit reset on your wardrobe, but it’s when you should start rethinking your fragrance lineup, too. Along with new sweaters and coats, it's a good idea to look into fuller, richer and darker scents for fall, says Barney Bishop, olfactory expert and the writer behind the blog Fragrant Moments. Start your search with strong notes such as amber, oud, leather or incense.

If you’re unsure of where to start looking, we’ve assembled six exceptional unisex (except for one) options—whether you’re looking for an everyday go-to or something for a special occasion—that won’t disappoint.

And once you have your scent, make sure to apply it at the right time: after a shower. Towel dry and spray on while the skin is still moist. “The moisture left on the skin gives the scent something to hold onto,” says Bishop. Just remember that stronger fragrances require less sprays. Try one fewer than you’d use in the summer.

atelier cologne emeradue agar, $325

This intoxicating scent—Bishop’s new personal favorite—takes its name from one of its base notes: agarwood, a deep yet balanced Malaysian wood (also known as oud). It’s easy to overdo it with this ingredient, so start with just one spray.
